squito scrambler
mosquito-grinding robot
After dissection, the malaria parasites are released from the salivary glands using a pestle.
Standard practice involves grinding the sample 50 times, centrifuging the tube, then repeating the process twice more, for a total of 150 grinds per tube.
This process is physically uncomfortable, time-consuming, and challenging to standardize across individuals and trials.
The robot we designed minimizes labor and discomfort, reduces variability in grinding force, and decreases user interaction to enable multitasking.
